The marine colonies of birds and rapaces are the birds that more contribute
to characterize the ecosystem faunísticamente. By her geographic
situation privileged person, sa Dragonera is also singular strategically
important point during the autumnal migration of the birds. Between the
marine birds they emphasize the colonies of gull of Audouin, pardelas cenicientas,
pardelas pichonetas, cormoranes and paíños. The colony of
common gull specially is elevated and has been object of demographic control
from year 1989 because of the strong incidence that has its increase on
the population of other species of birds. In sa Dragonera is the greater
colony than it exists at the moment of hawk of Eleonor. The fishing eagle
raised time there back, and at the moment it can be observed with relative
frequency fishing in the environs of the island. Other less significant
elements of the fauna of sa Dragonera are not the dense presence and population
of small lizard Balearic (with an endemic subspecies of the island) of blind
crustaceans and cavemen, who have been able to stay isolated in waters of
a relatively deep cavity to which she is acceded by earth. The marine surroundings
are of high value by the variety and the wealth of its bottoms. Eight ecosystems
have been described where they honor the coralígenas communities,
precoralígenas and the prairies of oceanica Posidonia that extend
throughout the channel that separates sa Dragonera of Majorca. 114 species
of invertebrates have been detected, with an ample representation of the
group of the moluscos and of the crustaceans, and 100 species of fish. The
common dolphin and the galápagos are species of frequent vertebrates
in these waters. Time back, at least until the first third of century, was
possible to find in the zone a marine mammal of the family of the seals,
denominated popularly vell marí (seal monk). This animal has been
extinguished in the Balearic Islands, but its presence in sa Dragonera is
documented and topónimo of the island is reflected in some (cave
of vell mari ').
